The In-Person Consultation

We offer an initial in-person, in-home consultation to each of our clients in order to facilitate getting to know you personally and to allow us a better understanding of your needs. During this meeting, we are interested in finding out all relevant background information about each of our students. This includes facts such as:

• The student’s past academic history,
• Schools attended in the past,
• Standardized test scores,
• Past experience(s) with tutoring,
• Desired destinations for college and/or graduate school, and
• Long-term academic and professional goals.

This meeting allows us to get to know our students, and often their parents. In addition, it is platform for devising and presenting the preliminary tutoring plan and for establishing reasonable expectations. For most students, learning is as much about style, method, and presentation as it is about information. The In-Person Consultation experience, therefore, prepares us to choose a tutor most ideally suited to each student’s learning and personality preferences.
